Mighty Red Squirrel

This little red squirrel was busy moving pilfered seeds from a community bird feeder to a stockpile he was building just across the trail, only 25 feet away.

On each trip, he would stop on the forest trail and stare me down from only a yardstick's distance, apparently to make me understand just exactly who was in charge.

In this photo, he has completed the construction of his latest stash, and is busy smoothing out the leaves.
