  • These clouds over South Manistique Lake look almost like a line of cartoon characters. I enjoy the reflection of the sky in the lake's surface.

  • A Great Blue Heron glides silently along the western shoreline of South Manistique Lake.

  • In June of 2008, I observed this pair of female Common Mergansers cruising the surface of South Manistique Lake in Curtis, Michigan. Mergansers are strikingly beautiful ducks, but are far less commonly seen than Mallards. Like the Mallard, the male Common Merganser is totally different in appearance from the female.

  • On occasion, nature provides the perfect picture frame. This image captures the southern end of South Manistique Lake, as seen from Neazor Point.

  • Sherman Road, a long, single lane path, is the only means of access to the southwestern shores of South Manistique Lake near Curtis, Michigan. This is a densely forested wetland, so one hopes not to encounter another vehicle coming the other way.
